Adrian Lower is a District Judge (Magistrates’ Court) on the North Eastern circuit, sitting in Cleveland and County Durham.
Before his appointment in 2012, he had 20 years’ experience of prosecuting in both the magistrates and crown courts across a wide range of criminal cases, both as a reviewing lawyer and as an advocate. Originally based with the CPS in Hampshire, beginning as a trainee solicitor, he has also worked in South Yorkshire then headed the South Yorkshire and Humberside Complex Casework Unit, responsible for prosecuting multi-defendant and multi-victim child abuse, complex homicide and large scale drug trafficking. He was then seconded to CPS Headquarters where he assisted the Principal Legal Adviser to the Director of Public Prosecutions with her assessment of material relating to alleged phone-hacking at the News of the World. He ended his career as a prosecutor at the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division of CPS Headquarters in York.
Adrian was appointed a Deputy District Judge in the civil jurisdiction in 2010. In the county court he dealt with claims relating to consumer law, negligence, housing, insolvency and family law, particularly non molestation orders, financial orders following divorce and infant settlements.
