James is a partner at Speechly Bircham LLP specialising in family law and advises on all issues arising from relationship breakdown. He has particular interests in complex financial cases (commonly involving international issues, offshore assets and trusts, and business interests), in the construction of intelligent, tax-efficient financial settlements and in cohabitation law.
James is also experienced in wealth protection matters, including pre- and post-nuptial agreements, many of which also have an international flavour, living together agreements and structuring advice.
James is committed to resolving disputes in a constructive way wherever possible and to that end is a Resolution-trained Mediator and collaborative lawyer.
James was described as “able” the 2008 Legal 500 and ranked as "up and coming" in Chambers 2009, which noted his "sound understanding of technical issues, especially those involving prenuptial agreements". He lectures regularly on financial provision on divorce and on cohabitation issues and has written articles for a wide range of legal publications.
James' comments on legal issues have appeared regularly in the newspapers, including the Times, Telegraph and FT. He joined Speechly Bircham in May 2006, having worked previously at Manches and Family Law in Partnership.
