Karen practices in the field of real property law with a particular emphasis on access to land issues. She has considerable experience representing landowners and applicants regarding claims to public rights of way and town and village greens.
As former Chief Legal Adviser to the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), Karen is well versed in advising on a wide range of property matters associated with the ownership and management of land. As well as her specialist areas of public rights of way and town and village greens, she also advises on highway law, private rights of way and other easements, riparian rights, land based torts, occupiers’ liability, Animals Act liability, environmental law such as statutory nuisances and tree preservation orders.
Karen also has extensive lobbying experience, which has included drafting amendments to Bills such as the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 and the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006. In addition she has acted as advocate for both the CLA and other groups during the passage of legislation in the UK and in Europe.
