Michael is a partner in Dentons' London-based Financial Services and Funds practice. He specializes in regulatory and commercial work for financial services institutions. He advises on corporate transactions, product development, distribution and outsourcing arrangements, new business launches and financial regulatory matters generally.
In recent times, Michael has advised various clients on their projects to prepare for RDR, including wrap platforms, insurers and asset managers. He has advised on agreements to insure substantial parts of pension scheme liabilities with insurers, advising both pension trustee and insurer clients. He has advised financial institutions on a broad range of regulatory issues, including financial resources, ICAAP, governance arrangements, CASS compliance and FSCS contributions. He has advised various insurers on product development initiatives involving issues such as linked insurance and personal pensions. He advised HSBC and BlackRock on court schemes to transfer insurance business under Part VII FSMA.
Michael is a regular speaker at industry conferences and in-house seminars. He is a contributing author to City & Financial's (A Practitioner’s Guide to FSA Regulation of Designated Investment Business). He is currently assisting TISA on a technical project relating to FATCA.
Michael was recognized as a leading advisor to financial services institutions at the Compliance Register Annual Awards 2012.
Michael is a frequent commentator on financial services issues in media such as Bloomberg and Complinet, and occasionally in the national press.
