Peter is an official CPDcast contributor and contributes to the following podcasts:
Peter is primarily a litigator with a commercial chancery practice. Before starting in practice at the Bar, he worked in the City as a fund manager in the asset management arm of a leading investment bank. As a consequence Peter has a particular interest in disputes with a financial element.
In the context of financial services, disputes in which he has been instructed have included those involving: the transitional jurisdiction of the Financial Ombudsman Service; current accounts and credit cards; financial spread betting; payment protection insurance and long term agreements with syndicates at Lloyd’s. He has appeared before the Financial Services Authority’s Regulatory Decisions Committee and the Financial Services & Markets Tribunal in regulatory proceedings arising from the PIA/FSA Pensions Review.
In the area of property litigation, Peter’s clients have included mortgage lenders, institutional landlords, investors in portfolios of ground rents, local authorities and the Court appointed manager of a farming partnership. Disputes in which he has been instructed have included those involving: easements; restrictive covenants; mortgages and other securities; overage agreements; party walls; business and residential tenancies and agricultural holdings.
As to professional negligence, Peter has particular experience of advising solicitors and their insurers but has also acted on behalf of both other professionals and institutional claimants. A considerable proportion of Peter’s professional negligence work relates to his underlying areas of practice.
Peter also has considerable experience in some of the more traditional areas of Chancery litigation such as charities (including a dispute concerning the membership and administration of a religious charity), trusts and estates and the Court of Protection.
