Biography
Richard Smith is a partner in Slaughter’s corporate division and has a broad corporate and corporate finance practice with particular experience in public and private M&A and equity capital markets work. He has also developed specialist expertise in the utilities, insurance and banking sectors. Richard has recently completed a secondment to the investment banking division legal team at Goldman Sachs International where he was involved in a large number of equity capital markets and M&A transactions across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. His recent work has included:
- Resolution on its takeover of Friends Provident
- Centrica on its takeover of Venture Production
- HM Treasury on the Asset Protection Scheme and the lending commitments arranged with various banks
- Land Securities on its rights issue and disposal of Trillium
- Aviva on the outsourcing by its UK life business, Norwich Union Life, of the administration of almost three million of its life and pension policies to Swiss Re
- RWE on its disposal of Thames Water, its arrangements in relation to a Turkish utilities joint venture, and various other matters
