This CPDcast series aims to ensure that practitioners are familiar with the recent developments in pensions law as a result of the introduction of the Taxation of Pensions Act 2014 and the Pension Schemes Act 2015.

In this two-part CPDcast series, Will Sutton, a Senior Associate at Reed Smith, looks at the recent case law concerning updates to pensions law as a result of the Taxation of Pensions Act 2014 and the Pension Schemes Act 2015.

In Part 1 of this CPDcast series, Will shall be covering the impact of the changes on defined benefit schemes, including the requirement for members to seek independent financial advice in respect of those transfers whose financial value is above a certain level in relation to the transfer of safeguarded benefits. Will shall also take us through the issue of who is to pay for the independent financial advice and how the process of obtaining this financial advice works in practice.
