In this CPDcast, we interview Leigh Sagar, a barrister at New Square Chambers. The subject of the interview is the guidance published by the Charity Commission on ‘public benefit’ under the Charities Act 2006. There is an explanation of the key principles of public benefit and several examples are given for each principle to illustrate how the requirement of public benefit may, or may not be satisfied by charities. After the interview with Leigh Sagar, we consider the recent draft guidance issued by the charity commission in relation to fee-charging charities, in particular, to independent charitable schools.
