This CPDcast update aims to examine the key recent developments in discrimination law namely cases concerning discrimination on the grounds of sex and religion and belief but also the key rulings in Europe and the progress of the Equality Bill.
In the CPDcast Discrimination Law Update, Spencer Keen and Richard Oulton will be looking at the following areas and the recent cases that have influenced them.
In relation to the law of sex discrimination, they will firstly be discussing Sahota v The Home Office and Pipkin and Mayr v Bäckerei which examine discrimination and IVF treatments, and secondly, in relation to sex discrimination involving pregnancy, the cases of O’Neill v Buckingham County Council and Madarassy v Nomura International Plc [2007] IRLR 246.
With regards to discrimination pertaining to religion and belief, they will look at Ladele v London Borough of Islington and the recent ruling in the JFS case.
They will also be looking a key European cases namely Kucukdevici v Swedex GmbH, Winner Wetten GmbH v Bürgermeisterin der Stadt Bergheim and Wolf v Stadt Frankfurt am Main.
Finally they will update us on the status of the equality bill and any recent amendments that have been made to it.
