Course Aims:

This podcast aims to explore some of the developing themes in financial services regulation following the recent difficulties in the banking sector.

The podcast will look at how states are managing tension between national interests and the general international interest for stability within the financial services sector.

Consideration will also be given to the proposals by the three main UK political parties on the future of financial services regulation, examining the future role of the FSA and its relationship with the Bank of England.

Roger will also be discussing the concept of a 'living will' for some financial institutions. Throughout the podcast, reference will be made to the changing culture in financial services regulation from one based upon prescription to a more principles based approach and the concept of 'fairness'.

  • Understand the regulatory framework at the G20 and international level;
  • Understand the European framework and mechanisms for the production of technical standards in financial services regulation;
