This podcast is aimed at solicitors. It addresses the changes to the way solicitors are permitted to practice under the SRA Handbook 2011. The podcast will set out the transitional changes between the old and new regulatory regimes, what steps need to be undertaken and how firms can prepare for the introduction of ABSs from 2012.

- Understand how firms were permitted to practice under the previous regulatory regime and the key differences with the post-6th October 2011 regime.;
- Know whether a legal practice will be classified as a Recognised Body or a Licensed Body under the new Handbook;

- Understand the timetabling of changes and the key dates by which changes must be implemented.;
- Be aware of the position for firms which have already been in discussions with non-lawyer participants;
- Understand the extent to which Recognised Bodies and Licensed Bodies are regulated;
- Know who can be a so-called manager or participate in Recognised Bodies or Licensed Bodies;
- Know about the new regulatory and compliance roles of COLP and COFA and who can hold these positions;
- Be aware of the potential for regulatory conflict and how this will be dealt with.
