Course Aims:

This podcast, produced in association with the Bar Standards Board, is aimed at criminal barristers interested in what ‘QASA’ – the Scheme developed to systematically assess and assure the quality of advocacy in the courts in England and Wales – will mean for them. It provides a useful guide to the fundamental features of the Scheme, the procedure for advocates to follow to obtain judicial evaluation and sets out important information with regard to the spot-checking process which is designed to ensure advocates are complying with the Scheme’s requirements. It also considers the way in which advocates move between the QASA competency levels and where advocates can go to find further information regarding the registration and assessment process.

After completing the course you will:
  • Have an understanding of who QASA will apply to;
  • Be aware of the spot-checking process which will operate to ensure compliance with QASA’s requirements;
  • Know the different levels of accreditation under the Scheme;
  • Have considered the way in which advocates will obtain judicial evaluation under the Scheme.
