This podcast aims to discuss women in prison. It explores the characteristics of the female prison population compared to men. It will consider the argument that specific provision should be made on the basis of these differences and will look at the services available to cater for the particular needs of femle offenders. The podcast will also consider the recommendations made in the 2007 Corston Report which reviewed the way that women are treated in the Criminal Justice System. It will then consider the potential impact of the recent Green Paper, ‘Breaking the Cycle: ‘Effective Punishment, Rehabilitation and Sentencing of Offenders’ (published by the Ministry of Justice in December 2010) on female offenders.
